The iPad jailbreak is process through which the users can remove certain restrictions levied on their devices. The manufacturer, Apple enforces certain restrictions on the use of certain apps, themes and extensions. However, the users can conveniently overrule those restrictions. The process is popularly known as jailbreak.
Once a jailbreak is performed successfully on the iPad device, the user can then use it to download software applications, which are not officially recognized by the Apples App Store. However, after jailbreaking, the user has gained root access to the OS of the iPad.
How to jailbreak your iPad?
The very first thing that you need to do is plug in your iPad to a computer, and then go to the iTunes. On the left hand side of your device’s panel, you will see the name of your iPad. Right click on it and select Backup.
Once this is done, download the software called Redsnow from the internet. This software usually gets downloaded in a zip file, which you could open and extract it into a redsnow folder. Click on the software and launch it on your device. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to see the jailbreak icon, click on it.
You’ll need to keep in mind that the version of the software, which is required to perform jailbreak, depends on the type of iOS installed on your iPad. This can change from one version to another. Hence, be careful when you choose jailbreak software for your iPad.
Putting the iPad in DFU mode
After the above mentioned process is completed, you will need to place the iPad into the DFU mode. The process needs to be performed carefully. To start with you are required to press the power button of your device for about 3 seconds.
Soon after this, you’ll need to press two buttons simultaneously for about ten seconds, home and power. Then, release your hold over the power button, but make sure you continue pressing the Home button until the software is able to detect the device. Once the device has been detected, your iPad would start booting. While your device is booting, make sure that you have already released the home button, or else it might hinder the process.
The redsnow software then would ask you to select options, which you would like to enable on your device. Select option to enable Cydia apps, and click on the Next button. This will be followed by another round of booting, where the software will start uploading the new kernel and RAM disk.
You will be notified once the process is completed, and then you click on the finish option. This will reboot your device, which will take a little longer than usual. This time when your iPad restarts, it would have been successfully jailbroken.
You can now download all kinds of apps and themes that are not part of the Apple App store. By jailbreaking your iPad, you could enjoy a lot of options and try out as many apps as you want.
